Ready for a Year of Possibility
From first-day nerves to big smiles and joyful reunions, our schools came alive as students, educators and families kicked off the 2026-27 school year together.
Across Highline, students are starting a new year of learning, connection and opportunity. In classrooms and schools, our staff are focused on creating places where every student belongs, is challenged and supported, and has opportunities to discover their strengths and prepare for the future they choose.
There is so much ahead this school year. New experiences, new relationships and new opportunities to learn and grow. Today was just the beginning.
Watch our first-day-of-school video for a look at the excitement across Highline.
Every Student Belongs in Highline
As we begin the new school year, Highline remains committed to welcoming, valuing and supporting every student and family. Every child has the right to a free public education, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, language, race, gender, identity, disability or background.
In his first-day message to families, Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran reaffirmed that commitment:
“You and your children are welcome and belong in Highline.”
Dr. Duran also shares what we are celebrating, where we need to improve and what lies ahead for students and families this school year.
