A Welcome Message from Superintendent Ivan Duran

A Welcome Message from Superintendent Ivan Duran

Dear Highline Families,

There is something special about the first day of school. Today, thousands of students walked through our doors carrying different hopes, experiences, strengths and needs. Our responsibility is to make sure every one of them knows they belong here.

As we begin the 2026-27 school year, I want every family to hear this clearly: You and your children are welcome and belong in Highline.

We are committed to ensuring that every student and family is welcomed, valued and safe. Every child has the right to a free public education, regardless of citizenship or immigration status, language, race, gender, identity, disability or background. We will continue to protect the rights and dignity of the students and families we serve.

That commitment is at the heart of our Highline Promise to know every student by name, strength and need, so that they graduate prepared for the future they choose.

We have much to celebrate as we begin this year. Across Highline, students are accessing more career-connected learning opportunities, learning in innovative ways and graduating with choices for their future. We also know that we have work to do. Our state assessment results and student attendance show us areas where we must improve. We have high expectations for every student and will continue working with families to ensure students have the learning, support and opportunities they need to succeed.

This November, Highline voters will consider a school bond and technology levy. These local-funding measures would fund school construction, technology and capital improvements across Highline. You are encouraged to learn more on our website.

I believe public education creates opportunities. I know education opened doors and possibilities in my own life. And every day, we have the opportunity to do the same for our students.

Thank you for trusting us with your children and being our partners in their education. I hope your family had a great first day, and I look forward to all we will accomplish together this year.

Delivering on Our Promise,

Ivan Duran, Ed.D.
