About Standards-Based Grading

All Highline elementary schools use standards-based grading, which measures how well students are learning specific grade-level standards. Instead of traditional letter grades, you’ll see scores from 1 to 4 that show your child’s progress:

  • X:  Not evaluated at this time because it has not yet been covered in class
  • 1: Beginning to understand
  • 2: Making progress
  • 3: Meeting the standard
  • 4: Exceeding the standard

This approach focuses on learning over time, not just single assignments. Teachers will discuss your child’s progress and next steps during conferences. Learn more about Standards Based Grading on our website.
