Highline Receives Positive Audit Results

Highline Receives Positive Audit Results

The State Auditor’s Office gave Highline Public Schools a clean audit in its most recent review of the district’s financial operations and federal grant programming.

The audit for the 2023-24 fiscal year found no findings, no significant deficiencies and no material weaknesses in our financial statements or federal grant administration. This confirms that our financial records are accurate, reliable and well-managed. The Auditor’s Office conducts a separate audit focused on accountability that is still in progress.

State audits hold school districts and other public agencies accountable for use of public funds and compliance with local, state and federal law.

“We deeply value our ongoing partnership with the State Auditor’s Office,” said Highline Chief Financial Officer Jackie Bryan. “Each annual audit is more than a compliance exercise—it’s a meaningful opportunity to reflect, refine and strengthen our fiscal practices to better serve our students, staff and community.”

Highline has a long track record of good stewardship of tax dollars. Thanks to stable enrollment and last year's budget reductions, we did not need to make additional budget reductions during this year’s budget development process for 2025-26.

All school construction projects in the past twenty years have been completed on time and within budget. The construction of the new Tyee and Evergreen high schools are scheduled to open in fall 2025, both on time and within budget.

The public is invited to learn about the proposed 2025-26 district budget in June. The Highline School Board of Directors will hold a work session on the budget on June 12 and a public hearing on the budget on June 25.
