New Student Survey Asks Students to Reflect on Life Skills

New Student Survey Asks Students to Reflect on Life Skills

We are grateful to our families for being valued partners as we work together to educate students in Highline. One of our priorities is to support students in developing life skills related to five core areas:

  • Self-awareness
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship-building skills
  • Self-management
  • Responsible decision-making

When students develop skills in these areas, academic learning accelerates and student behaviors improve.

Over the next several weeks, students in grades 3-12 will be asked to reflect on their own skills in these five areas. By giving feedback through a survey, students will evaluate their school and classroom environment and the support the school provides them. All survey questions can be found here

The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Students in grades 3-5 will take the survey with support from teachers. Middle and high school students will take the survey independently. K-2 students do not take the survey to self-assess their skills. Rather, their teachers will reflect on students’ skills in these same core areas using a teacher version of the same survey tool. We will administer both surveys online in January and March.

Student and teacher responses will provide invaluable insights into student experiences and how we can improve and adapt to their needs. If a student or teacher doesn’t feel like they have enough information or does not wish to answer a question, they will be able to skip it. The responses to these surveys will be confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor, Panorama, to support us in administering these surveys.
